3D Shooter Level Design

Full 3D FPS level

This is a 3D shooter level, designed to be an earlier level used to introduce the player to the first alternative weapon, a rapid fire rifle.

This project is an investigation in designing levels and encounters using FPS game conventions as a basis, and a practice for using Unreal engine to greybox 3D levels.

Level flow diagram

I first established the goal for the level, an early stage that introduces the rifle weapon, began planning out the base components in a beat diagram

After that I made a primary sketch of the level in order to work out the basic enemy placements, cover locations, sightlines, and other details before entering the greybox stage.

I then used unreal tournament editor to gain access to the basic firearms and first person controls in order to streamline the process while still working withing the Unreal engine. During this stage I was able to make small adjustments to the level in order to make it feel better in small ways, more obvious in a 3D level than they were in a 2D plan.
